The New Zealand syndicate defeated the Italian Luna Rossa by an overwhelming 5 to 0; although the result shows the clear dominion of the NZL 92 over the ITA 94 the regattas have been very close, with the Italian boat ever nearby awaiting the New Zealanders' error that never came.  

The team skippered by Dean Barker has shown itself to be the best challenger possible with complete control of regatta tactics and with an intuition for the variations and roles of the wind without a shadow of doubt, they have shown themselves to be untouchable, leaving not one single crack in their form of sailing.

On its way towards the America's Cup the New Zealand syndicate, in order to reach the final of the Louis Vuitton Cup,  defeated the Spanish syndicate in the semifinals, by a very dignified, for the Desafío Español 2007, score of 5 to 2. This encounter was sought after by the Kiwis who, as the winners of the Round Robins, could choose their rival out of the semifinalists. The other semifinal was dominated by the Italians of Luna Rossa by 5 to 1 against the Americans of BMW Oracle.

Finally and after having shown itself to be the team in greatest form, as is attested by their victory in the Louis Vuitton Cup, it is the Emirates Team New Zealand syndicate that will measure up against Alinghi in the 32nd America's Cup.
